Pursuing a doctoral degree
Graduate School Students
Tokyo Dental College Graduate School offers a four-year Ph.D. course. Ph.D. students will be required to study specific subjects under the supervision of the professor of the department of his/her choice. On successfully completing the required credits, they will be required to defend their thesis and pass a final examination in order to obtain the degree of Ph.D..
In the Graduate School, each department has its own specific curriculum for Ph.D. Students. Students can expect to gain an advanced knowledge of dental science and its related fields, enabling them to become a leader in research and education in their area of specialization.
This course is available to :
- Those who have graduated dental school/ faculties of dentistry or who will graduate in March of the applicable year.
- Those who have been recognized as having qualifications equivalent or superior to those of graduates of dental school/ faculties of dentistry.
- Those who have graduated the medical college/ the faculties of medicine (these may study basic dentistry, except dental materials science).
- Foreign dental or medical school graduates when recognized as possessing an academic qualification equivalent to dental or medical school graduates in Japan.

Dental Research Student
This course is available to doctors or dentists with at least 2 years’ clinical experience and a proven record of research. The successful applicant will be required to study specific subjects under the supervision of the professor of the department of his/her choice. On successfully completing the course of study, the applicant will be required to defend their thesis in order to obtain the degree of Ph.D.
Commencement Date:from any selected date
Study Duration:Over 4 years for Basic Research / Over 5 years for Clinical Research
Note : A Masters degree which the applicant took in his/her native country will not be taken into account in calculating duration of study.

Successful applicants will be required to acquire advanced knowledge and skills under the supervision of the professor of the department of his/her choice.

The successful applicant will be required to acquire advanced knowledge and skills of dentistry under the supervision of the professor of the department of his/her choice.
On successfully completing the course of study, the applicant will be awarded a certificate.
This course is available to : Certified dentists or applicants with equivalent qualifications from their native country.

Dormitory
Dormitory facilities are available. They are located approximately 50 minutes away from Tokyo Dental College by bus and train. The room charge is JPY 27,000 or JPY 50,000 per month, depending on the size of room required. The rooms are furnished with a bed, writing desk, chair, refrigerator, washer-dryer, and air conditioner. Applicants must apply for a room at least 30 days prior to the date on which they wish to move in. We have 9 single rooms and 2 double rooms.
